A few of my favorite things

Today’s post is about a few things I have been enjoying lately, which I thought I’d share with you!

Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

My husband was going to get this for me for my birthday in June, but when he saw how laggy and slow my old laptop was, (I still love you, Toshiba laptop!), he decided to gift it to me about 3 months early, just in time for his birthday. 😁

I love how smoothly this runs, and OMG, the Touch Bar is so fun!!! It takes a while to switch to, from Windows, but once I got the hang of it, I found it a little easier to operate, in comparison.

However, I don’t like the new “thunderbolt” ports which make it necessary to purchase a slew of additional accessories if one is to be able to connect the laptop to items other than just the charger provided.

Still, I ❤️ all things Apple, and I ❤️❤️❤️ this too!

Arrested Development

Lucille Bluth: You want your belt to buckle, not your chair.

I know this show has been out for ages now, but I just started watching it properly (by properly I mean not catching bits and pieces on TV), and OMG, I live for Lucille Bluth.

Lucille Bluth: I’ll be in the hospital bar.

Michael: Uh, you know there isn’t a hospital bar, Mother.

Lucille: Well, this is why people hate hospitals. [Cackles at her own wit]

Sneaker Wedges

I am obsessed with makeup and shoes, and my recent shoe obsession is with sneaker wedges/wedge sneakers/whatever you call them. The two pairs above are from Aldo and Converse, respectively, and I love how comfortable yet cute they look. I am a size 5 and initially I wanted the Aldo ones in black, but my size was sold out and I’m glad I got the Converse pair because I love how they look with jeans.

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist and DKNY Be Delicious

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist has long been one of my favorite scents. It has a lovely, sexy, sophisticated touch to it that is warm and … comforting (for lack of a better word) at the same time. I decided to try DKNY Be Delicious as well, which is (from what I have read) kind of supposed to be “New York City in a bottle”. Honestly, it is a really fresh and upbeat scent that is simultaneously attractive. Cashmere Mist is more of an autumn/winter scent, and Be Delicious is more of a spring/summer one, for those who prefer season-specific fragrances. Personally, I could wear  these two all year round.

Sleek Makeup Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Birthday Suit

I wrote a blog post about this long along, and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again. It is that perfect pinky nude that goes just as well with minimal makeup as it does with an intense smoky look. When I get ready for the day, this is always my last step and it really pulls my look together. Plus it feels soft and comfortable on the lips, and is not drying at all. It can be layered without looking flaky as well. Win!

What about you? What are some things (could be shows, food, makeup, anything at all) you are currently enjoying? Let me know in the comments below, or on my Instagram (thegirllovesmakeup) where you can follow me for reviews and makeup porn!

NYX Eye Shadow Base In Skin Tone: The Perfect Replacement for MAC Soft Ochre

Before we begin, please take a moment to follow me on Instagram! I have fun posts!

Mini Back-story

So a while back, my beloved MAC paint pot in Soft Ochre dried up for good and I was devastated. It was the perfect eye shadow base for my skin tone and I really didn’t like the thought of spending more $$ for something that dries up so quickly. (Which is weird considering how irresponsible with money I usually am.)

Enter NYX Eyeshadow Base in the shade Skin Tone. Someone on my Snapchat recommended this as an alternative for Soft Ochre, and after trying it, I couldn’t agree more.

The Yay

  • While this looks darker in the pot, it actually isn’t this dark applied on the eyelid and damn son, it makes eyeshades POP.
  • Keeps my eyeshadow poppin’ from 12 PM to 10 PM (or whenever I choose to take my makeup off/ go to bed. The point is, with this thing on your eyelid, that shadow is there to stay. Keep in mind this is in cold weather, btw. And my kids lids are not very oily.)
  • Available in two more shades.
  • Totes inexpensive so value for money.

The Meh

  • You have to dip your finger or brush in the pot which isn’t so hygienic.

I use my fingers to apply this onto my eyelids.

Do I Recommend This?

You bet yo ass. If Skin Tone is too dark for you, there is a white and pearlescent white shade available as well.

Ulta, NYX, Target.

I made these Teriyaki stir-fried noodles yesterday. They were really good.

Also, I finally finished The Crown and am now watching Outlander. Outlander is like a Harlequin romance novel come to life.

Old Faithful: E45 Cream

For some bizarre reason, my skin becomes drier in spring and autumn than it does in the winter.

Whenever summer is around the corner, I have itchy, blotchy, red, and irritated skin that is crying for moisture one minute and breaking out the next one.

So after a month of this nonsense, I’d had enough and decided to go back to an old love of mine – E45 cream.

Years ago, a friend told me about this miracle product that contains paraffin and lanolin, and is supposed to help with skin troubles including dry flaky skin, eczema, itchy skin, dry psoriasis, and sunburn.

Honestly, the second I used this on the parched, sensitive skin of my hands and face, I could feel it work immediately. It doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin and is absorbed quickly upon application. There is no particular scent to this, it just smells clean, in a way. Once I have applied this, my hands and face feel moisturized for the rest of the day, even after being rinsed with water.

I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from any of the above mentioned issues or has really, really dry skin in general. Just take caution not to use it too much, especially in really humid weather, or you might start getting little bumps all over your face.

For someone like me, after trying out multiple different moisturisers, E45 cream is what has ultimately come to my rescue.

You can check out their website here, and the cream is available for £2.29-£4.49 at Boots.

Rivaj UK Quick Dry Liquid Lipstick

The Story

I have to admit, I give my country a lot of shit when it comes to a lot of things. But if there is one thing Pakistan excels at, it is making good quality, inexpensive makeup, and, in particular, lip colors.

So anyway, a few days ago, I was at my local grocery store, buying groceries and stuff. So I popped into the makeup section to see if I could locate any hidden gems, and I was not disappointed.

Rivaj UK Quick Dry Liquid Lipstick, or Rivaj UK Quick Dry Lip Gloss (as per the website – yes, they have a website!) is described as:

It will fix your selected color on your lips just in 60 seconds with a touch of matt finish. Available In 18 Different Colors

Short and sweet, let’s keep it at that.

Favorite TV show – Bates Motel

Bates Motel is back with a fourth season and life is better once more. Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates is my TV mommy. I love her. I love everything about the woman and I cannot stress how wonderful the actress is at playing her part. Vera *is* Bates Motel.

Plus they’re finally doing something about the insane chemistry between Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) and Norma this season. My prayers have been answered. That is all.

Favorite ingredient – Paneer

I love paneer (cottage cheese). I stray from it time and again, but I always come back for more. Paneer, so versatile, so beautiful. Paneer tikkas, paneer pakoras, grilled paneer, oh, the things you can do to paneer.

In the picture above is Paneer Tikka Masala made by moi after another bout of paneer cravings took over.

Favorite app – Moodnotes

Moodnotes is an adorable journal app which lets me make quick notes of how I feel, complete with tags and suggestions to make me feel better/look at things from a different perspective. Journal entries can be exported to PDF format also. I love this app.

Check it out here.

Favorite game – Pktball

Pktball (Pocketball) is a cute arcade-style game which reminds me of how games used to be when I was a kid in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Medora Lipsticks Review & Swatches

About Medora Of London

If you’re from Pakistan, or you have parents/grandparents from the country, then you’ll know that Medora is a local brand which has been around since the dawn of time itself. Or, at least, since 1961.

Unlike most local Pakistani brands, Medora actually has a website which gives a decent amount of detail about the company:

Medora of London (Pvt) Ltd. was established in 1961 and is today one of the leading cosmetic companies in Pakistan . It is committed to its objective of providing high quality products at affordable price.

With brands “Medora”, “Delycia” and “Diplomat” being one of the best sellers in their respective categories, Medora of London has become a household name today. The trust gained has been as a result of constant improvement in the products by our team of chemists who are continuously striving to meet the expectation of the consumers.

Having a network of more than 200 distributors, the company is able to serve its consumers all over Pakistan.

Their lipsticks (plus the rest of their range of products) have been around since ever, and I’ve grown up watching my mother, grandmother, and aunt wear them daily.

I’ll be honest; when I was a kid, the quality of Medora’s products was good, but nothing to rave about. However, recently the brand’s name has been popping up everywhere, so I decided to give their lipsticks a try, and OMG, I’m so glad I did.
