DIY Beauty: Silky Avocado Eye Cream via Hello Glow!

Disclaimer: This recipe is not mine. It is taken from the book Hello Glow by Stephanie Gerber. Here is the link to the Hello Glow blog.Β

The Story

Lately I have developed an unhealthy obsession with eye cream, and my favourite one is the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado which I reviewed HERE..

So when I came across a recipe in the book Hello Glow where an eye cream was created using the main natural ingredients in the Kiehl’s version, I knew I had to try it.

The Eye Cream πŸ‘€

1 tablespoon shea butter

1 tablespoon avocado oil

1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

30 ml lidded glass jar

Small saucepan

Measuring spoons

  1. Boil 2 inches of water in a small saucepan and reduce the heat, to create a water bath. Place the shea butter into the glass jar, and put this glass jar in your water bath.
  2. Wait for the shea butter to melt, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once the shea butter melts, remove the jar from the water bath and let it cool for 2 – 3 minutes.
  4. Add in the vitamin E and avocado oils, and stir to mix. Continue stirring as the mixture cools to create a smooth, creamy texture.
  5. Let the mixture cool (I placed it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours), screw on the lid. To use, dab a little around the eyes; do not tug at the skin.

This cream is to be used daily, it is for all skin types, and should be used within 6 months.

My Experience

This cream is quite luxuriant and emollient, so I try to use it at night only, before bed time. I wake up in the morning with firmer, plumper skin around my eyes. The ingredients in this are amazing for keeping the delicate skin around the eyes fresh and youthful-looking.

Sometimes I like to apply this on a bare face for about half an hour or so and then rinse it off for a quick treatment. I also like to apply it on a bare face in the shower. I like to think the steam mixes with the cream and it is magically absorbed into my skin for increased fabulousness.

I also like to use it around my lips for the same benefits it gives the skin around my eyes.

A little goes a long way with this!

I recommend using a 30 ml glass jar for this as the recipe states. I used three 10 ml ones, and that was a slight pain. (But OMG they looked so cute!) Everything you need for this recipe can be found on Amazon.

I like to keep my jars in the fridge, as shea butter melts quickly with the heat of the body, so it is easy to keep the cream in the fridge without fear of it becoming frozen.

Note: This does smell very much like shea butter and that may not be to some people’s liking.

Little Pot Of Happiness: LUSH Feeling Younger Skin Tint

Apologies for being MIA for a while now; it’s been a busy week. So today I’ll unwind by reviewing a product that falls into my favorite category: highlighters.*heavenly music plays in the background*

A relative who is well aware of my love for highlighters bought me this product on a recent trip to Dubai. LUSH describes their Feeling Younger Skin Tint as follows:

A youthful glow

We wanted a highlighting skin tint that would give a gorgeous glow wherever it was applied, so we started with a base of beautiful ingredients (as we like to do). Soothing oatmeal decoction, cocoa butter and some of the best oils for the skin, jojoba and almond oils are blended together for a nourishing base that’s good for your skin. Blended in is a pigment that reflects light, brightening cheek bones, brow bones, the inner eyelid or even your dΓ©colletage for a sexy glow.

Hello Glow Whitening Plus Facial Polish

Hello Glow Whitening Plus Facial Polish is a natural powder facial polish which promises to brighten and whiten your complexion with use. I bought this 100 mg bottle for the summer months when even an hour out in the sun is enough to give me a visible tan.

Hello Glow is manufactured by Rose Link, a UK-based company, which claims:

What is it?
A luxurious hand blended silky powder, that glides over skin to whiten and brighten the complexion instantly.

What’s in it?100% natural combination of coconut milk powder, potato starch, milk, honey, rice and essential oils

How does it work?
Coconut milk contains natural silicones to create a very superior skin moisturiser. Combined with potato starch, which is a substantial source of Vitamin C, this product provides an amazingly natural bleaching effect. Honey acts as a natural humectant, attracting moisture to leave skin smooth and glowing.

How do I use it?
Pour onto wet hands, rub palms together to create a smooth paste, gently massage onto skin for 20 seconds and rinse off with cold water to reveal a radiant complexion. Use twice a day for optimum results.

LUSH Light Yellow Colour Supplement

LUSH Light Yellow Colour Supplement is described on the website as:

For warm, medium skin tones

Light Yellow is ideal for those with medium warm skin tones, or as a winter makeup for olive skins that haven’t seen the sun in a while. If you have tones of light brown to yellow and tend to tan easily, then Light Yellow will look most natural on you. Another way to tell if you have warm tones is to hold gold and silver jewelry up to your face. Which one compliments you more? Gold often suits warmer tones better than silver.
