LipSense Liquid Lipstick, Gloss, Remover – Review + Swatches

Last week, LipSense Independent Distributor Leanna sent me a lovely package containing a few products from the brand for review, including their liquid lipstick, gloss, and lipstick remover.

LipSense is produced by a brand called SeneGense (bit of a difficult name to pronounce!) and they have this to say about the liquid lipstick on the website:

The premier product for SeneGence®, LipSense is a patented, amazing departure from conventional lipsticks and lip colors. LipSense is versatile in that you can mix shades to create a number of effects.

  • Unique product is waterproof and does not kiss off, smear off, rub off, or budge off!
  • Does not dry out your lips – it works to restore the moisture content
  • Color lasts anywhere between 4 and 18 hours

For best results, LipSense® products must be applied to clean, dry lips. For a more defined, finished look, use LinerSense® before applying the lip color. LipSense® needs to be shaken horizontally prior to application. LipSense® is applied by using a layering technique. Here is how to apply LipSense®:

Step 1: After placing color onto the wand, begin application at the corner of mouth, (usually) using the longest length of the applicator. Keep lips apart, and follow the natural shape of lips starting at the outer corner of the mouth. With one continual stroke, apply one layer of color from one corner to the other corner of the bottom lip, then one layer of color to the top lip. Apply the color, moving the applicator in one continuous direction versus going back and forth like you would with lipstick.

Step 2: Repeat Step 1 two more times, so that you have a total of 3 layers of LipSense® applied to your lips. Let each layer set for a few seconds before proceeding to the next, and do not press lips together. It is not recommended to apply more than three layers of color.

Step 3: When the application of the third layer of color is complete and the color has set, apply one of the LipSense® Moisturizing Glosses over the final layer. Do not press lips together until the moisturizing gloss has been applied onto the last layer of lip color. After applying the gloss, press your lips together to smooth in the moisture rich gloss and enjoy the glorious look and feel of this long-lasting, advanced color technology!

LipSense® Liquid Lip colors are removed by using Ooops!™ Color Remover or liquid Fooops!®
SenseCosmetics® Color Remover.

The Yays

  • This lipstick lasts! I applied three coats of it (that is the maximum you should apply), and I ate after that, I drank water and then tea, I smacked my lips, licked them, did what not with them, and the lip color stayed on the whole time. The swatch below? Yeah, I tried scrubbing that off with soap and water, and it wouldn’t budge. Thank God I received the remover, else I would be left with no lips in my attempts to remove this product.
  • It comes in a huge variety of shades which can be accessed on the website. Leanna was kind enough to send me a catalogue which included the shades. I received the shade Bella which is described as being a neutral shade on the website. More on this later.
  • On its own, it looks like a tattooed-on lip color, but with the gloss, I really like how it looks on the lips.
  • The gloss isn’t overly sticky and doesn’t give 2006 throw-back vibes (i.e. it isn’t gooey looking). It actually looks like your lips are hydrated and satiny.
  • You get 7.4 ml of product, which is much more than most brands ofter.

The Mehs

  • At $25, it is one of the more expensive lipsticks I have used. You do get 7.4 ml of product with this one, while with most liquid lipsticks you get 5 ml to 6 ml for around $18 – $20.
  • The color Bella is described as a neutral, but to me it a deep mauve-red which made my normally moderately pigmented lips look incredibly dark. The first second in which I wore it, I was really happy, and then the color darkened with more swipes. I was really not a fan of how it turned into an almost vampy brown-red on my lips after the third coat. (In the picture below, the darkness doesn’t show much because of the lighting, plus I am wearing 2 coats.)
  • The formula is a very liquid-y one; almost like a stain. When I first applied it, it stung my lips a little, especially the dry bits, which is why the next day I prepped my lips with balm well before I applied this lipstick. Then, it stung a little less than before.

Note: You really need a remover (I use the Ooops!™ Color Remover) to wipe this off. Even my micellar water wasn’t a match for the staying power of this lip color.

LipSense lipstick in the shade Bella

Lipsense Review thegirllovesmakeup

LipSense lipstick in the shade Bella

Do I recommend this?

I think it is probably the most long-lasting lipstick I have ever tried. That said, I didn’t really like how the color looked on my lips. I was expecting a neutral, nude shade and this one made my lips look much darker. The shade was my choice, btw. I was asked which one I would like and I picked Bella because I liked it in a picture I saw on Instagram.

I am not sure of wanting to try another shade of this brand in the future, primarily because I don’t think I want a lipstick that lasts into tomorrow, and needs a special remover, and also because I am a little worried other colors may also darken on my lips.

However, for someone who wants the a lip color tattooed onto their lips, this is the next best option! I think if you are in search of a lipstick that doesn’t wear off with activity, give LipSense a try.

I received this product free for review purposes and the opinions here are my own, and are unbiased.

Girlactik Beauty Matte Lip Paint Review & Swatches

Recently, I purchased Girlactik Beauty’s Matte Lip Paint in the shades Bashful, Sweet, and Posh (above).

According to the company’s website:

Known as one of the original Liquid Lipsticks and BEST selling formula…You are the artist to your lips with the Matte Lip Paint. Apply this richly pigmented lip paint on to your lips and within one minute it will dry down to a beautiful matte color that will be noticeably dramatic without the dryness or flaking. Your lips are sure to look mattie-full!! Did you know Girlactik gives the most product in a vial for matte lippies? You get 7.5ML…that’s more than double of most brands!

BEAUTY TIP: For true color apply just one coat. Two coats will make color darker for two color options.

Size: 7.5 ml / .25 oz

Period After Opening: 6M

Ingredients: Isododecane, Synthetic Beeswax (Cera Alba), Mica, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Petrolatum, Polybutene, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Silica, Flavor, Stearakonium Hectorite, Alcohol Denatured, Propylene Carbonate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol. May Contain (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492 & CI 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850).  *Carmine only in the color Blossom.

The shades

Bashful, Posh, and Sweet are all shades in the nude/neutral category.

Bashful is a warm nude pink with the tiniest hint of coral and it reminds me of Huda Beauty’s shade Bombshell.

Posh is a beige which veers into a rosy brown and reminds me of the shade Ashton by Anastasia Beverly Hills, though I don’t have that shade myself, mind you.

Sweet is a pretty, neutral pink that leans towards cool mauve.

All three shades suit my NC20/C2 skin tone well.

The yay

  • These lipsticks have amazing wear, they lasted through my meal and did not really fade; they stayed on very evenly. I wore one shade overnight (I know, its wrong, I know) and it was still there, nice and bright and even in the morning.
  • It is actually very nice and comfortable on the lips; not drying at all, provided you don’t apply this over dry-ass, crusty lips to begin with. (I should know, I tried. 😒)
  • The shades are beautiful in this range. I think they would suit all skin tones quite well.
  • For me, one coat is enough for smooth, even, non-streaky application.
  • Large number of shades, 16 to be precise.
  • You get 7.5 ml for the price you pay ($23), which is a huge amount of product IMO. Some companies charge ~$20 for as little as 3 ml of product which I think is very stingy. Why you wanna treat us so bad, companies?!
  • Pretty packaging.

The meh

  • If you apply two coats, or layer this lipstick, it will become patchy and flaky.
  • You may think $23 is too much for a lipstick. (But like I said, Girlactik ai-NOT stingy with product.)

Do I recommend these?

They are good quality lipsticks available in a wide variety of colors and you get a lot of bang for your buck, so yes. I do.

A few of my favorite things

Today’s post is about a few things I have been enjoying lately, which I thought I’d share with you!

Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

My husband was going to get this for me for my birthday in June, but when he saw how laggy and slow my old laptop was, (I still love you, Toshiba laptop!), he decided to gift it to me about 3 months early, just in time for his birthday. 😁

I love how smoothly this runs, and OMG, the Touch Bar is so fun!!! It takes a while to switch to, from Windows, but once I got the hang of it, I found it a little easier to operate, in comparison.

However, I don’t like the new “thunderbolt” ports which make it necessary to purchase a slew of additional accessories if one is to be able to connect the laptop to items other than just the charger provided.

Still, I ❤️ all things Apple, and I ❤️❤️❤️ this too!

Arrested Development

Lucille Bluth: You want your belt to buckle, not your chair.

I know this show has been out for ages now, but I just started watching it properly (by properly I mean not catching bits and pieces on TV), and OMG, I live for Lucille Bluth.

Lucille Bluth: I’ll be in the hospital bar.

Michael: Uh, you know there isn’t a hospital bar, Mother.

Lucille: Well, this is why people hate hospitals. [Cackles at her own wit]

Sneaker Wedges

I am obsessed with makeup and shoes, and my recent shoe obsession is with sneaker wedges/wedge sneakers/whatever you call them. The two pairs above are from Aldo and Converse, respectively, and I love how comfortable yet cute they look. I am a size 5 and initially I wanted the Aldo ones in black, but my size was sold out and I’m glad I got the Converse pair because I love how they look with jeans.

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist and DKNY Be Delicious

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist has long been one of my favorite scents. It has a lovely, sexy, sophisticated touch to it that is warm and … comforting (for lack of a better word) at the same time. I decided to try DKNY Be Delicious as well, which is (from what I have read) kind of supposed to be “New York City in a bottle”. Honestly, it is a really fresh and upbeat scent that is simultaneously attractive. Cashmere Mist is more of an autumn/winter scent, and Be Delicious is more of a spring/summer one, for those who prefer season-specific fragrances. Personally, I could wear  these two all year round.

Sleek Makeup Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Birthday Suit

I wrote a blog post about this long along, and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again. It is that perfect pinky nude that goes just as well with minimal makeup as it does with an intense smoky look. When I get ready for the day, this is always my last step and it really pulls my look together. Plus it feels soft and comfortable on the lips, and is not drying at all. It can be layered without looking flaky as well. Win!

What about you? What are some things (could be shows, food, makeup, anything at all) you are currently enjoying? Let me know in the comments below, or on my Instagram (thegirllovesmakeup) where you can follow me for reviews and makeup porn!

HudaBeauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks - Review and comparison with possible dupes

HudaBeauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks

I got the HudaBeauty Liquid Matte lipsticks in the shades Icon and Bombshell a while back.

Sephora says:

What it is:
A highly comfortable, long wear liquid lipstick that dries matte with intense color pay-off and transfer-proof properties.

What it does:
Introducing Huda Beauty’s latest lip beautifier: the Liquid Matte, an unrivaled take on the liquid lipstick. The tried and true comfort-wear formula from top beauty expert, Huda Kattan, is infused with antioxidants and an exclusive complex to help maintain the lips’ hydration. The lightweight formula glides on a thin coat of color that intensifies as it sets to a matte, transfer-free finish with amazing staying power. You might even forget you’re wearing anything on your lips at all! The must-have shades can be worn alone or combined to create the perfect color for any occasion. Pair it with a complementary Huda Beauty Lip Contour to set off your look.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
“I created these because I could never find a liquid lipstick that suited my needs. This formula is so light, it feels like you’re wearing nothing at all, but gives you a long-lasting, transfer-free finish in shades to die for.”—Huda Kattan

This product is cruelty-free and free of gluten. Please note: the color’s appearance may vary based on skintone once set.

You get 5 ml of product for $20.

The Shades

This is described as a classy peachy pink. On my lips, it is actually pretty dark and shows up as a hybrid between red and pink. It is a very glamorous shade if you want a bold lip, or something classy for a night out.

This is described as a subtle pinkish nude, and it is my favorite of the two. Normally lighter shades look like neon highlighter on my pigmented lips, but this shows its actual true color on my lips and is so perfect for daytime/summer/with a smokey eye/for a no makeup look. The list is endless. On my lips, this looks like it has a coral tint to it.

The Yay

  • Beautiful finish. These actually feel hydrating on the lips and sit so well once they dry.
  • They don’t really come off unless I have a big meal or eat something very oily. This is a primary reason why they’re two of the best shades in my collection and why I turn to them time and again if I know I’ll be wearing my makeup for a while.
  • When they fade, they do so very evenly, especially Bombshell which fades to look like it is actually my own lip color.
  • Very lightweight on the lips.
  • Packaging is very pretty.

The Meh

  • They take a while to dry.
  • They are on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but like I said, they’re good quality!

Do I recommend these?

If you have $ to spend and you really want to try these out, I say go for it. There is a huge range of shades and they are very good quality lipsticks. I will probably keep repurchasing Bombshell forever.

Icon (top) and Bombshell (bottom)

Icon (top) and Bombshell (Bottom)

Because I love Bombshell so much, I checked to see if there are any cheaper dupes for it in my collection, and came up with some possible picks.

NYX Lip Lingerie in Ruffle Trim and Bedtime Flirt

The NYX site describes these as:

Slip into something seductive with Lip Lingerie, our luxurious liquid lipstick with a plush, Matte finish. Available in the color-kissed hues you know and love—from cinnamon pink and chocolate brown, to warm mahogany red and classic nude beige—plus, 12 brand-new nudes! Each sultry shade will coat the curves of your lips with irresistibly creamy color.

They retail for $7 (4 ml).

Bedtime Flirt is described as a red-toned pink, and it is a very light one at that. It is the perfect nude lip and on my lips, looks almost similar to HudaBeauty Bombshell. The main difference is in texture; Bedtime Flirt is more creamy and moussy, and that shows on the lips while Bombshell is thinner in texture and sits on the lips very lightly. Bedtime Flirt does not feel drying on the lips.

Ruffle Trim is described as a cinnamon pink and looks like a coral pink on my lips. I thought this would be more like Bombshell but in my swatches I think Bedtime Flirt is a closer dupe. This shade is also non-drying and creamy in texture.

Do I recommend these?

For $7, you can’t go wrong. Big shade range, creamy on the lips, great for daily wear.

J.Cat Beauty Lipfinity Matte Lip Kissproof

I saw this dupe on the DupeThat Instagram profile, and it was only $4.99 on Forever 21 so I bought it in the shade Champagne Buzz.

Champagne Buzz has no description on the site but it is a nude pink shade that looks very much like Bombshell. The only trouble is that it applies streaky and has to be evened out with more coats. It also does not feel hydrating like Bombshell, but what do you expect for a quarter of the price? Normally when I apply Bombshell, I keep Champagne Buzz in my purse for touch ups.

Do I recommend this?

For $4.99? Give it a try, I would say. Plus you get a whopping 12 g of product.

Lip Color Love: Jouer Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Terra and Lip Topper in Skinny Dip

You can read my previous post about Jouer’s Liquid lipsticks here to get the details on why I love them and their formula. After trying Melon and Petal de Rose I decided to buy the shade Terra along with their much-loved lip topper in the shade Skinny Dip.

Terra ($18) is a beautiful deep, almost rosy beige, described as a Matte Neutral Deep Ochre on the Jouer website. Skinny Dip ($16) is described as a Metallic Shimmering Golden Nude, and it literally brings the color it is worn over to life!!

I think Jouer has done a wonderful job with their lip colors and I definitely recommend these!!!

Check my Instagram to see Terra and Skinny Dip in action!!

Jouer Cosmetics Haul

Jouer Cosmetics is relatively new in the makeup world, but their offerings have gotten so popular so fast, I just had to sample a few of them. I also follow their founder Christina Zilber  on Snapchat (Snapchat: czjouer), and she’s such a sweet and down-to-earth person that I really wanted to support her brand. Recently they had a sale and I got their Slim Creme Eyeliner set and two Long Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks.

I forgot how much the eyeliner set cost, but the liners are now available individually for $18, as are the liquid lipsticks.

Top Melon, bottom Petale de Rose

I have this in two shades, Melon and Petale de Rose. Regarding the shades, the former is a bit too light for my NC20-25 skin tone to be used without a lip liner, at least in the evening. In the daylight, I can just pull it off. The latter is a beautiful vibrant-but-muted-enough pink that I think would suit all skin tones.

The Yay
  • These liquid lipsticks are actually quite hydrating and comfortable on the lips. They don’t dry out my lips and once applied, they set quickly and do not budge. My lips do not feel tight or uncomfortable with these on.
  • The staying power is phenomenal. I applied these the other day, went to a movie, had popcorn and pretzels and I reapplied this in the dark not knowing whether it had come off or not. Came back home from the movie and literally went to bed with this on, then I woke up and had breakfast and let me tell you: this lipstick stayed on until I used Vaseline and a tissue to vigorously wipe it off.
  • There are so many colors to choose from.
  • You get a generous 6 ml for a reasonable price in my opinion.
The Meh
  • Available online only

Top to bottom: Matte black, Matte charcoal, Matte brown, Matte plum, Matte navy, Matte green

This set includes 6 liners, all matte in green, navy, plum, brown, charcoal, and black shades.

The Yay
  • Insanely smooth. They don’t drag at all. At all. It is like BUTTAH.
  • The pigmentation is amazing as well. The shades are all so vibrant.
  • I got the set at an incredibly reasonable price.
  • Sharpener included at the bottom of the pencil.
  • It is a twisty pencil so yay. I hate sharpening stuff.
The Meh
  • I ordered the black shade once before and the actual lead, like the stuff you put on your eye, had broken off from the bottom when I received it. And with this set, I’ve had the same problem with the black shade. What even, I say.
  • Some shades are pointier than others which makes me wonder if the other ones were swatched before being packaged…
  • Available online only.

Do I recommend this brand and these products?

Honestly, yes! They have good deals, the owner is very responsive even on her Snapchat, she has a code which gives you 15% off (I believe it is CZ15OFF), and the products have great pigmentation, variety, and longevity, even if some may not be packaged well.

Do check them out if you haven’t already. Christina has also worked with UNICEF and you can check out her work on her Snapchat (czjouer).

Rivaj UK Quick Dry Liquid Lipstick

The Story

I have to admit, I give my country a lot of shit when it comes to a lot of things. But if there is one thing Pakistan excels at, it is making good quality, inexpensive makeup, and, in particular, lip colors.

So anyway, a few days ago, I was at my local grocery store, buying groceries and stuff. So I popped into the makeup section to see if I could locate any hidden gems, and I was not disappointed.

Rivaj UK Quick Dry Liquid Lipstick, or Rivaj UK Quick Dry Lip Gloss (as per the website – yes, they have a website!) is described as:

It will fix your selected color on your lips just in 60 seconds with a touch of matt finish. Available In 18 Different Colors

Short and sweet, let’s keep it at that.
