olive garden chicken giardino recipe

Recipe Post – My version of Olive Garden’s Chicken Giardino

Chicken Giardino is quite possibly my favorite dish at Olive Garden. I love the light lemon pepper sauce and the perfectly grilled chicken. Recently I found out that the recipe uses white wine, and since I do not consume alcohol in any form or quantity, I decided to make it at home, with a few alterations.

The following recipe is taken from Olive Garden, and I’ve made a few modifications to suit my personal palate.

chicken chili dry Pakistani indian desi Chinese recipe

Recipe Post – Chicken Chili Dry

One of the many things I miss about living in Pakistani is Desi Chinese. I know all countries have their own brand of Chinese food which combines local flavors with traditionally Asian ingredients, and Pakistan is no different.

(Desi is pronounced dey-see, btw. Not Desi, like Lucy and Desi.)

There are so many restaurants back home which cater to desi-Chinese loving individuals like me, and one of their more popular dishes is Chicken Chili Dry, which is basically flour-coated, “breaded” chicken tossed in a spicy gravy with vegetables.

I’ve been looking for a good Chicken Chili Dry recipe for ages now, and I have finally found an easy and delicious one via Huma In The Kitchen on YouTube.

Potato Cheese Balls recipe The Girl Loves Makeup

Recipe Post: Potato Cheese Balls!

Potato Cheese Balls recipe The Girl Loves Makeup

Potato Cheese Balls

Makes 8 large balls or 10 – 12 small ones

I decided to begin the new year on a deep-fried, carb-filled, but delicious note with these potato cheese balls.

I’ve made them in the past but sometimes they break up as I’m frying them and sometimes the coating doesn’t stick.

I’ve combined two recipes to ensure that will not be the case. One is from Hungry For Goodies and the other is from Sooperchef. Both blogs have YouTube accounts as well. I highly recommend checking them out for tasty, tested recipes.

These potato cheese balls are best enjoyed with some sweet chilli sauce and a warm cup of tea.

Where my makeup journey began – Classic Makeup & Beauty by Mary Quant

where my makeup journey began - mary quant classic makeup and beauty - thegirllovesmakeup

My Makeup Story

Mary Quant’s book Classic Makeup & Beauty was published by DK under the series DK Living in 1998.

I got this book 10 years ago, around 2007, nearly 10 years after it was published.

I remember very clearly the day and circumstances by which I came in possession of this book. It was late summer, and the days were stiflingly hot. I, 14 at the time, was moping around the house because it was yet another boring summer vacation wherein we did nothing and went nowhere. My mother was a single parent (my father passed away when I was barely two months old), taking care of three old people and two kids while maintaining a position as a college professor of anatomy. Plus, she’d been battling breast cancer since I was about 10. So vacations were probably the last thing on her mind.

Benefit High Beam – I finally gave in!

The story

I read about Benefit’s OG highlighter High Beam nearly 10 years ago, in a book about makeup from Vogue (or maybe it wasn’t by Vogue? I don’t know 🤔), and ever since then I have been obsessed with the acquisition of that ✨ ~dewy glow~✨  that runway models have.

Over the past 9+ years, I have purchased an amount of highlighters that can easily be categorized as a sh!t-ton, but never did I ever go back to the one that started my obsession – until now.

Sephora says:

What it is:
A satiny-pink, liquid highlighter to add a subtle glow.

What it does:
Create a radiant, dewy complexion for an ethereal glow that is perfectly alluring on all skin tones with this iconic, high beam highlighter. Use it as a spot highlighter over makeup or wear it underneath makeup for subtle luminescence.

Beauty tip:
High beam is the ultimate go-to product for strobing. Dot and blend high beam where light would naturally hit your face (the cheekbones, browbones, down your nose, and on your cupid’s bow) for a beautiful, glowing complexion.

You get 10 ml of product for $26.

The yay

  • Really, why did I arrive to the party this late? This liquid highlighter is beautiful. It is so finely milled that I cannot see even a hint of shimmer or glitter in there. And the glow is the definition of dewy. I mean, when they call it the “supermodel in a bottle”, I think they are 💯 % keeping it real.
  • It applies beautifully. I need the tiniest 5-6 dots along my cheekbone to get that glow going. I pat it into the skin (pat, not rub or swipe, is the best policy with liquid and cream highlighters) with a flat foundation brush, or my Vera Mona sponge, or my fingers, and it diffuses into the most natural, healthy yet bright radiance immediately.
  • I was always worried this might look too ashy or silvery or cool against my tan skin tone but honestly, it doesn’t. It blends out into a pearly glow, with minimal hints of pink, which looks very lit-from-within.
  • Lasts about 6-7 hours on my face before fading. I don’t think that’s bad, and that is the product without a powder highlight on top.
  • I was initially not happy about the 10 ml of product served up by Benefit, but their website has reviewers stating the bottle lasted them ages so I guess 10 ml is good. I still think Benefit should move it up to like 12-13 ml at least.
  • The bottle! 😍😍

The meh

  • This doesn’t work well swiped on because it will move your foundation underneath.
  • I did not like how it looked worn over face powder.
  • $26 for 10 ml is pricey to me. (So watch out for their friends and family sale!)

I dot this along my cheekbones (very little is needed for a good, healthy glow), and blend it out with my fingers, a flat foundation brush, or a sponge.

Do I recommend this?

Yes. It is an exquisitely pretty highlighter. (Though I am sure most people have it by now, considering how late I am to the show. 😒) Though deeper or warmer skin-toned individuals may want to try this first to make sure it does not show up as too white or streaky on them!

What’s in my handbag?

Today’s post is a fun little diversion from the review blog posts I usually do. I’m going to tell you all about what I managed to fit in my tiny little shoulder bag that I used while out and about on vacation recently! Also, if you stick around, you’ll read about my trips to Chicago and Cedar Point, and the tv shows I’m currently obsessing over.
