ABH contour stick in fawn review and swatches the girl loves makeup

YOU GUYS. I have a new love, and it is a grey-brown stick.

If this is you, stop now.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick foundations have mixed reviews on most retailer websites, but I don’t care. I just want to type quickly and give you the details, just so I can conclude and tell you this product is the bomb and I love it and I never want to be without it.

The stick foundations are described on the Sephora site as:

What it is:
A multitasking, light-to-full-coverage cream stick foundation with a natural-looking, demi-matte finish.

What it does:
This highly pigmented, buildable cream stick foundation creates a flawless, natural looking demi-matte finish. The Stick Foundation is ideal for combination and oily skin, and the lightweight, easy-to-layer foundation delivers light-to-full-coverage, depending on the method of application. It’s designed to quickly and precisely apply all-over coverage, daily touch ups, or highlight and contour with ease.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

There are about 29 shades, including three contour shades (Shadow, Fawn, Mink) and one highlight shade (Banana). You get 9 g of product for $25.

Why I love it

Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar Skin Tint – Review & Swatches

My friends. I have a new love. It is the Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar Skin Tint!!!

Which skin type is it good for?
✔ Normal
✔ Oily
✔ Combination
✔ Dry
✔ Sensitive

What it is:
A whipped water-gel makeup and skincare hybrid with broad-spectrum SPF 20 sunscreen.

If you want to know more…
This skincare and makeup hybrid combines the sensorial texture and all-day hydration of skincare with the buildable coverage of makeup. It’s infused with a rare Asian fruit extract, whu zu yu, to provide a healthy-looking, shine-free glow.

Research results:
In clinical tests:
– 93% of women showed an instant increase in moisture

You get 30 ml of product for $39.

The shades

The shades for this are totally bizarre. They are 3.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 9.5. I got 5.5 Beige for my light-medium skin tone. The shade suits my NC20/C2 skin tone quite well, but oxidizes on me a bit which makes me think I should have gotten 3.5 instead. Oh well. Next time. Coupled with a highlighting concealer, this shade is quite suitable. Plus, most foundations oxidize on my skin, so.

The yay

  • Now listen. Your girl is all about full coverage and flawlessness and all. And this is a skin tint which means it is supposed to be lightweight, which it is. Despite being lightweight, this tint has beautiful medium coverage! It sinks like a veil into the skin and covers a lot of minor blemishes while still making the skin look naturally glowy and healthy.
  • It has a lovely silk-like texture, and application is smooth and creamy and dreamy.
  • It does not accentuate dry areas and is actually very moisturizing on my dry/sensitive skin.
  • It is perfect for days when you want to let your skin breathe but still look polished.
  • 30 ml for $39 is a bit pricey but not bad, as the product really does perform well for something that is supposed to be lightweight.
  • SPF 20

The meh

  • Packaging is really crappy. Like it is housed in a cheap little plastic jar and when you open it, most of the product sticks to the inner lid (that thing between the lid and the jar that most beauty products in a jar have).
  • Shade range is bizarre and limited.
  • This product may not do well on oily complexions.

I use a Morphe M439 (BEST FOUNDATION BRUSH EVER) to buff this into the skin using light, round motions.

Ignore the red splotch on my arm; I burned myself frying some food.

Do I recommend this?

For breathable, medium coverage that looks dewy and healthy, yes. I do.

Estée Lauder Face Favorites!

Today I want to share my favorite foundations and concealer from Estēe Lauder. I love all of these products and they are some of my all-time favorite base products.

(products placed on Martha Stewart Living Magazine March 2017)

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup

Says Estée Lauder:

Proven 24-hour staying power.

The same long-wear makeup you love, now proven to last even longer. Looks flawless and natural.

Feels lightweight and so comfortable, you won’t believe it’s super long wear.

Won’t change color, smudge or come off on clothes.

Lasts through heat and humidity.

This foundation is matte and is supposed to have medium to full coverage.

I have this in the shade 1N2 Ecru. It is a beautiful matte foundation, and has coverage that starts out as a medium that is still able to hide most flaws, to a full, flawless finish. The shade range has warm, cool, and neutral tones. 1N2 is a little lighter/more neutral than my warm NC20 skin tone, but it does help neutralize the yellow tones of my skin. I think after this bottle finishes, I will try the shade Desert Beige.

I LOVE this foundation. The finish is beyond beautiful; it is truly my-skin-but-better. It covers literally all of my blemishes and gives a natural, healthy radiant but matte look. The staying power is fantastic, this lasts all day. The longest I have worn it has been 10 hours, with minimal oiliness at the 6/7 hour mark.

The only flaw with this is shade selection; they offer so many (this could also be a pro) that it is hard to choose a shade.

With this, a little goes a long way but blending has to be swift as this dries quickly. Also, if you have dry skin, moisturize underneath this, I would say.

Note: This does not come with a pump, but I got one for it from MAC Cosmetics, which fits the bottle perfectly!

Estée Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Camouflage Makeup

From the site:

12-hour wear. Natural-looking. Long-wearing.

This soothing liquid-creme makeup is designed to camouflage all skin imperfections, including surgical and acne scars, tattoos, birthmarks, sun spots and varicose veins. Helps protect with SPF 15.

I was told about this by an amazing MUA when I went to New Jersey. This foundation is the most full coverage product I have used to date. I honestly believe I didn’t know what full coverage was until I met this baby. On a good skin day, this can be used in place of concealer and you’re good to go.

Again, I adore this product. The coverage is fantastic. It is matte, lasts forever (longest I wore this has been about 9-10 hours and again, oiliness was minimal), and mark my words: you need a very small amount to work with. You can build it up, but please don’t start with a huge amount unless you want to look cakey.

I have this in the shade 1N3 Creamy Vanilla, and the flaw here is that shade selection is very limited. But this shade is a good enough match for my NC20 skin.

This also dries quickly and is not very forgiving on dry skin, so blend and moisturize well, I would say.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Flawless Wear Concealer

The company says:

Looks flawless. Lasts 15-hours. Feels comfortable, never dry. Stays seamless, without creasing. The lightweight creme formula creates the perfected look of flawless skin and lasts all day. Transfer-resistant, color-true, with medium buildable coverage that won’t slip, slide or melt away. Luminous finish.

Infused with minerals and emollients to condition skin and make blending easy. Oil-free. Water, perspiration and humidity-resistant.

To start, choose a concealer shade that matches your foundation or is one shade lighter.

For best results, we recommend applying concealer after applying your foundation.

Use Double Wear Concealer with Concealer Brush 5. Swipe concealer to back of hand, then with brush smooth on over desired area. Blend well.

Targeted concealing techniques: For darkness around eyes, go with a slightly lighter shade than your foundation. For puffiness, slightly darker. For uneven skintone, wear the same exact shade as your foundation.

I have this in the shade Warm Light. Like the two products above, this concealer offers matte, insanely full coverage which is easy to go overboard with, so I use it sparingly and build it up. It also lasts about 8-10 hours on me before I take off my makeup.

This concealer is perfect for highlighting and concealing the under eye area, and gives me a fresh, wide awake look in a minute. It does not irritate the eye area at all, and also makes a great eyelid primer.

It is also not forgiving on dry patches, and is a bit liquidy and dries quickly, so I moisturize beforehand and blend it well.

Top to bottom: Estee Lauder Double Wear Flawless Wear Concealer (Warm Light), Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Coverage Makeup (1N3 Creamy Vanilla), Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup (1N2 Ecru)

Final thoughts

I will keep it short and to the point: these three products offer phenomenal coverage, a naturally radiant finish, and are very long-lasting. I recommend all three. I also advise going to a Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macy’s, or Dillard’s to find your perfect match should you wish to purchase them.

These brushes are rather universal in that they cover all needs in terms of application.

You get 10 brushes of various sizes for $29.95.

General Overview

  • These brushes are very dense and quite soft. They are made of synthetic  fiber hair which sometimes irritates my skin, but I have yet to comment on that. If I have any updates about these irritating my skin, I will let you know.
  • They do not tug at the skin.
  • They disperse the product very evenly and smoothly with no streaking. The finish is a very natural, almost blurred, airbrushed one.
  • The brush head sits on a thin, tapered design (made of plastic) but it is still very sturdy, at least in my experience. Again, if any brush breaks, I will update this.
  • You get 10 very multi-functional brushes for $29.95, which to me is a great price for quality and versatility.
  • They come in a very nice case (Check it out here on my Instagram).
  • Best to wash these before first use. They dry quickly after washing, too.

Application, characteristics, and usage of each brush

Brush 1
  • Quite huge head.
  • Sturdy with soft bristles.
  • Good for applying moisturizer or other skincare product to entire face.
  • Can also be used on the body.
Brush 2
  • Sturdy with soft bristles.
  • Good for buffing moisturizer and foundation into the face.
  • Can also be used on the body.
Brush 3
  • Perfect for applying foundation on the face.
  • Sturdy with soft bristles.
  • Can also be used to buff in cream or powder bronzer.
Brush 4
  • Sturdy with soft bristles.
  • Perfect for buffing in under-eye concealer or cream highlighter.
  • Can also be used for buffing in cream or powder bronzer.
Brush 5
  • Very sturdy, soft bristles.
  • Perfect for application of cream or powder bronzer.
Brushes 6, 7, and 8
  • I use these for nose contour or eye brow powder application.
  • They are all very sturdy and the bristles, while somewhat stiffly set, still manage to feel soft.
  • I use 7 to apply nose contour to the sides of my nose, and then 6 or 5 to blend it in.
  • I use 8 to apply and blend a highlight shade down the center of my nose. It is also useful to apply brow powder.
Brushes 9 and 10
  • Very sturdy and stiff yet soft on the face
  • Both good for blending in nose contour or highlight on the nose/brow-bones/even cheekbones. Also useful for blending in eye-shadow in a pinch.

While the brushes are all great for the above-mentioned uses, they are not limited to these; they are actually quite versatile and can be used in many more ways.

I think for the price, these oval brushes are soft, sturdy to the touch, and great for makeup application. The handle joint is a bit thin; I am afraid of breaking that off, and if that happens I will update the review.

For now, I am very happy with my purchase and recommend these brushes.

Mikasa Beauty Techni 02 Oval (S) Brush

So I’m pretty late to catch up on the new oval brush trend, but I’m so glad I finally did, with this multi-purpose brush by Mikasa Beauty.

From their site:

The perfect multi-purpose tool. This brush can be used for precise application of contour products. It can also be used to apply a soft wash of color to the eyelid or brow bone. It easily blends powder or cream eye shadows, face powders, and liquid or cream concealers in the hard-to-reach contours of the face. Made of 100% synthetic fibres. Features an ultra-durable, flexible handle, and a tilted brush head for ultimate precision.

Brush Hair: high grade synthetic fibre

Cost: $25

For reference, this brush is about the size of an actual toothbrush, lengthwise. The brush head is about an inch long.

The Yay

This brush has seriously changed the way my foundation/concealer/powder look. It offers a beautiful, truly airbrushed finish that is smooth and blurs out the natural texture of my skin and and blemishes/pores.

I first used this to apply my foundation which went on more smoothly and evenly than it did with a BeautyBlender or a kabuki brush. Then I applied my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer on top with the brush, and it settled down to a gorgeous natural finish which wasn’t in the least bit streaky or cakey.

Then I set my foundation and concealer with this brush using my Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder. My eyes are deep set so it is difficult getting base products into the inner corners, but with this brush I was able to do it smoothly and evenly.

I kept my makeup on for about 6 hours, without any setting spray, and let me tell you, there wasn’t a single sign of caking, or lines, or powdery-ness.

This brush really did upgrade my entire makeup application process, for the better.

It is so soft on the face, sturdy to hold and sweep across the skin, and can be used with multiple products.

It also blended my powder nose contour flawlessly for a finish that was natural, yet made a difference.

Colour me impressed!

The Meh

I think the brush they offer which is bigger than this one would be better for quicker foundation application. This one, due to its smaller size, takes a longer while with blending.

It is relatively expensive at $25, as is their set that this brush is a part of, plus shipping costs are high. Still, Mikasa Beauty often gives out coupons for money off.

Do I recommend this?

It’s soft, good quality, and really makes makeup application easy and flawless. I would say try it out!

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation In Shade 03

First things first, I apologize for not being able to post much since the start of September. Been a bit busy.

Ok, let’s get on with the review, shall we?

I love Illamasqua. Adore the brand. Perhaps it’s their products, perhaps it’s the way they market their products, but there is just something so gothic and beautiful about the brand. I’ll always be an emo goth at heart (read About), and I’ve dreamed of owning Illamasqua products since I began my love affair with makeup, many, many years ago. (Okay, it hasn’t been that long. But still.)

So, when I was in Dubai, I knew I couldn’t leave without visiting the Illamasqua outlet in Dubai Mall. I quickly googled a list of products that I thought might be good for purchase, hotfooted it to the outlet, bought the items, and left the mall a happy camper. (The SA at the outlet was a total sweetheart, btw. I wish I could live there. I want to work there. I want to own Illamasqua. Ok, end of rambling.)

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in Shade 03 is described as:

Our award-winning Skin Base Foundation in shade 03 is the go-to choice to create a flawless complexion every day.
