RMS BEAUTY LIVING LUMINIZER AND MAGIC LUMINIZER REVIEW AND SWATCHES

The Story

I’ve been lusting after the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer since I read about it online on some beauty website article. It has a cult following, and is reportedly loved by celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow.

The reason I didn’t buy this product until now is because I wasn’t sure of the price – quantity ratio. (4.82 g for $38) I didn’t want to shell out so much money for a product that wouldn’t last me a while. Also, I was worried because certain reviews said it was silvery, and that would clash with my olive/yellow/tan desi Pakistani skin tone.

Hence, I started looking into the RMS Beauty Magic Luminizer, a gold toned alternative to the Living Luminizer from the same brand. The Magic Luminizer had good reviews from people with medium and olive skin tones, so I decided to purchase that.

I made an account on B-Glowing, because they had a 20% off sale, and added the Magic Luminizer to my cart.

They have 20% off, I thought. Maybe I should get both luminizers, because I’m not getting an offer like this on Sephora any time soon *eye-roll*…

And so, I got both. 🙈

RMS BEAUTY LIVING LUMINIZER

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer – $38 for 4.82 g/0.17 oz

Sephora says:

What it is:
A cult favorite highlighter with a translucent, dewy finish.

What it does:
A must-have beauty product and rms beauty’s biggest seller, this luminizer highlights the skin better than anything else. The ultimate illuminator for creating a sensuous, luminous glow, the Living Luminizer enhances the skin’s natural youthfulness without being sticky, greasy, or glittery.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This product is hypoallergenic, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and noncomedogenic.

Suggested Usage:
-Apply sparingly with fingers over the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, along the inner corners of eyes, and on the cupid’s bow above lips for a natural glow.
-Add life to eyes by subtly applying onto the center of eyelids, just above the lashes.

Ingredients

*Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, *Cera Alba (Beeswax), Tocopherol (non-GMO), *Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, and may contain [+/- Titanium Dioxide CI77891, Mica CI 77019].

*Certified Organic

What you need to know:

  • OMG THIS IS A CULT FAVE FOR A REASON YOU GUYS. It is so beautiful. I wish I’d gotten this earlier. The glow from this creamy luminizer is the definition of dewy. It is completely sans shimmer. The only time I notice the mica in the Living Luminizer is when I tilt the jar towards direct sunlight.
  • The glow from the Living Luminizer is a sheer, transparent one on my tan/yellow/olive skin. There is no silvery touch, unless I keep layering it on, which I don’t do anyway because it looks weird. It makes my skin look like it is glowing, instead of looking like I placed a highlighter on my skin.
  • It contains coconut and castor oils, so it is very moisturizing on the skin. For dry skin like mine, this is heaven-sent.
  • I believe oily skinned people can also use this, if they blend it well into the skin.
  • This highlighter looks lovely throughout the day. It takes its time to settle into the skin (the oils are at work), and by the end of 4 – 5 hours, I have a glow that looks like it comes from within instead of looking like it is sitting atop my skin.
  • It lasted for about 8 hours on me before I took my makeup off for the day.
  • It looks lovely over foundation, and under powder.
  • It can also be worn over powder, if
    • you take care to dab and pat it on, not swipe it, and,
    • you pat it into the skin so any “edges” are diffused
  • The Living Luminizer is a perfect base for powder highlights and can really intensify them for a 3D effect.
  • I don’t find this sticky.
  • This is not for people whose skin is sensitive to coconut or castor oil.
  • This is also not for someone who likes a strobed, heavy highlight.

RMS BEAUTY MAGIC LUMINIZER

RMS Beauty Magic Luminizer – $38 for 4.82 ml/0.17 oz

Sephora says:

What it is:
A high-intensity, warm-toned highlighter.

What it does:
Created with the same stunning light-reflecting technology behind its bestselling highlighter, Magic Luminizer spotlights the complexion with a moonlit, champagne opalescence. It creates a bolder highlight for a gorgeous glow.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This product is hypoallergenic, gluten-free, and cruelty-free.

Suggested Usage:
-Apply sparingly with fingers over the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, along the inner corners of eyes, and on the Cupid’s bow above the lips for a playful-meets-provocative finish.

Ingredients

*Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Mica, *Cera Alba (Beeswax) (Cire D’abeille), *Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, *Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Tocopherol (Non-GMO), *Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, *Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Silica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77489, CI 77491, CI 77499). *Certified Organic

What you need to know:

  • The RMS Beauty Magic Luminizer is much more opaque and stronger compared to the Living Luminizer.
  • The Magic Luminizer is a champagne cream highlighter with the perfect mix of gold and pink tones. It is almost the same color as my skin, except it has a strong glow. So for my tan skin, this is perfect for a strong strobed highlight.
  • It can also be blended and diffused to make the glow a sheer one.
  • It contains jojoba, sunflower, coconut, and castor oils, so it is very moisturizing on the skin. Again, for dry skin like mine, this is heaven-sent.
  • The Magic Luminizer is less emollient than the Living Luminzier so people with oily skin can most likely wear this without fear of it looking greasy.
  • The Magic Luminizer lasted about 8 – 9 hours on me. For the first 3 – 4 hours the glow was prominent, and over time, it diffused a little to give a blurred effect, which I really liked.
  • It looks lovely over foundation, and under powder.
  • It can also be worn over powder, if
    • you take care to dab and pat it on, not swipe it, and,
    • you pat it into the skin so any “edges” are diffused
  • The Magic Luminizer is a perfect base for powder highlights and can really intensify them for a 3D effect.
  • I don’t find this sticky.
  • This is not for people whose skin is sensitive to jojoba, sunflower, coconut, or castor oil.
  • The Magic Luminizer is great for people who want a sheered out glow, or an intense glow. It can be built up, or blended out.

Do I recommend these?

I love the RMS Beauty Magic Luminizer and Living Luminizer, and I’m glad I got them. They are the perfect mix of moisture and glow for my dry skin, and really make my skin glow, used alone or as a base for powder highlighter.

Both are organic as well, which will really appeal to people who seek organic beauty products.

I will not say that a little goes a long way with these, as for me that is not the case. However, you also don’t need to keep piling them on to be able to notice a glow. With these luminizers, the glow is a customized one; you put on as much as you want or as little as you want.

That said, I love the way they look on me, and I definitely recommend them.
