First things first, I apologize for not being able to post much since the start of September. Been a bit busy.
Ok, let’s get on with the review, shall we?
I love Illamasqua. Adore the brand. Perhaps it’s their products, perhaps it’s the way they market their products, but there is just something so gothic and beautiful about the brand. I’ll always be an emo goth at heart (read About), and I’ve dreamed of owning Illamasqua products since I began my love affair with makeup, many, many years ago. (Okay, it hasn’t been that long. But still.)
So, when I was in Dubai, I knew I couldn’t leave without visiting the Illamasqua outlet in Dubai Mall. I quickly googled a list of products that I thought might be good for purchase, hotfooted it to the outlet, bought the items, and left the mall a happy camper. (The SA at the outlet was a total sweetheart, btw. I wish I could live there. I want to work there. I want to own Illamasqua. Ok, end of rambling.)

Let’s discuss the good and the bad regarding this product.
This foundation is insanely lightweight. Honestly, it feels like I’m not wearing anything on my face. I love that.
I bought the wrong shade, btw, (yes, my Googling skills require work) but this still manages to blend in well with my skin tone. Mine is a shade lighter than my skin tone. (Tip: If you find your foundation to be a shade or two lighter, mix in a powder mineral bronzer to adjust the shade to your liking.)
A little goes a long way, you really don’t need a lot of this foundation to give your face adequate coverage. IMO, it gives me a my-face-but-better look.
The coverage is light to medium, and can be built up. It covers minor blemishes and gives a soft-focus, semi-matte effect. I read in some places that the finish is dewy, but I suppose it depends on the climate you live in.
This foundation stayed on my face for around 5 hours before becoming oily and requiring a touch up. Mind you, this was in insanely humid weather.
While I expect better packaging for the price paid, the nozzle allows for controlled flow of the product and nothing leaks out of the plastic bottle.
My skin didn’t have any adverse reaction to this, thank God. It doesn’t really have a scent; if it does, I haven’t picked it up. (My sense of smell isn’t the best one. A blessing and a curse, yes.)
There are 26 amazing shades to choose from, with blue as well as yellow undertones. Check out the shade AU, if you click on the link above or below to visit the site. It really is something special.
This foundation sticks to dry patches of my face. Moisturizing the face is necessary for me before I use this product. I usually apply a light layer of MAC’s Strobe Cream under it. (I love Strobe Cream. I really should do a review showcasing my love for it.)
It dries quickly, so you have to apply it with a swift hand.
For such an expensive base, I do wish it came in better, more luxurious packaging. I suppose practicality was Illamasqua’s main concern regarding the bottle’s design.
It is expensive.
As I mentioned above, the foundation dries quickly on the face, which is why I often end up applying it with my fingers. I put 4 tiny dots on my face (forehead, both cheeks, chin), and rub them in. This can, of course, be applied with a foundation brush or flat-topped kabuki brush for those who are deft with brushes.
Do I recommend this product?
If you’re looking for a lightweight foundation which gives medium, buildable coverage and can be used every day, this is a good option.
However, if it is too expensive for you, I suggest you skip it. Drugstore brands offer some great products these days.
I personally really like this for everyday use, and might repurchase, though I’ll have to be careful with shade selection then.
