First things first, I am obsessed with FKA twigs‘ Two Weeks. Obsessed, like cannot stop listening to it, like on repeat on my iPod, like made wallpapers of the lyrics, like downloaded her entire album because of it. Like all of that. If you’re interested, here’s the YouTube link.
Ok, now that that’s off my chest, let’s get to the matter at hand: NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. These are available in 22 beautiful shades, each named after various cities worldwide. NYX claims:
Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and unlike some matte lipstick formulas also moisturizing.
I have this product in three gorgeous shades, Ibiza, San Paulo, and Antwerp.
This product is available in an 8 ml tube.
Antwerp is described as a mid-tone yellow-toned pink, which I think is an accurate description.
Ibiza is described as a matte deep rose pink, which I also think is accurate.
San Paulo is stated to be a plummy pink, which it is.
Where do I start? The shades are beautiful. They go on the lips like a dream. While the doe-foot applicator looks like it isn’t the best to work with due to the creamy consistency of the product, I am easily able to both line my lips and fill them in with the lip cream.
And does this last or what?! It did not budge until I had a hearty meal of pizza followed by molten lava cake, and even then it had only faded slightly from the center of my lips, quite evenly.
I think a reapplication is in order if you eat a heavy meal with this product on, but even without that, it will do. (I prefer a reapplication because I have thin lips which look better filled in fully with whatever lip color I am wearing.)
The shade range is huge, there is everything from nudes to pinks to reds and even a purple somewhere in there.
These shade in particular will suit all skin tones, I think. Ibiza is definitely my favorite of the three; wore it the other day and got compliments from my SO.
Also, I didn’t find them to be drying on my lips. Yes, they accentuated fine lines on the lips, but I don’t mind that. They’re matte colors; that’s a given.
I like the tube, I think it’s cute and the cap has a lovely matte feel to it.
For the price ($6.00), they’re a steal.
The shades I got look almost similar to me when worn initially. In fact, they look almost neon on initial application. When they dry down after a minute or two, you can tell the colors apart.
You may need to reapply this if it fades after a meal or a drink, but as I mentioned above, that may not be necessary, especially if you are blessed with full lips unlike me. 🙂
While they didn’t dry out my lips, I can’t say that for anyone else. Best to wear a lip balm for a while and then wipe it off beforehand if you plan on wearing an NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream.
I moisturize my lips with a lip balm before and after applying these Lip Creams. I apply them with the doe foot applicator, first lining my lips and then filling them in. This is best done while smiling. (Yes, you may look like a loon, but it gets the job done.) To take them off, I apply a lip balm on my lips while wearing the product and then swipe it off with a tissue or towel.
P.S.: Apologies for the crap quality lip swatches, did my best to show you how these look when worn.
Do I Recommend This?
In a word: Yes. Matte? Check. Long lasting? Check. Huge shade range? Check. Inexpensive? Yep. If you’re on the search for a product that fulfills these qualities, these Lip Creams are a good option.
