[Small update; please read in the Do I Recommend This section below.]
Sephora Cream Lip Stain was given to me as a present by someone. The shade I have is 01, Always Red, a matte, bold, true red.
There are 15 different shades available on Sephora’s website, which claims:
What it is:
A lip stain that provides beautiful, long-lasting color.
What it does:
This high-coverage lip product features avocado oil for a texture that transforms as you wear it: when applied, the initial cream texture becomes a silky, lightweight stain. Lips achieve stunning color and feel soft and comfortable.
What else you need to know:
Available in an array of rich shades, including both matte and satin finishes, with intense color that stays put.
The product is packaged in a tube with a doe-foot applicator.
The shade is beautifully pigmented. It is the perfect red, in my opinion. Rich, creamy, bold. One swipe is enough to get full, heavy coverage.
This classic red would likely suit all skin tones.
I like the doe-foot; it makes application easier, as opposed to the I Heart Makeup Wow Stick which is a crayon and can get messy.
It lasts on my lips until I eat. Basically the color stays put, with a bit of chipping at the center of my lips, unless I get hungry. We’ll just get to that.
It is not very drying, provided you moisturize your lips with a lip balm beforehand.
You have to give the color time to set. Like after I put this on, I had to wait a good five minutes before I was sure that the color wasn’t coming off. I didn’t have that problem with The Wow Stick, which didn’t budge once it was on my lips.
I had ice cream around an hour after I put this on and after I was done, the stain had totally disappeared from the center of my lips, and was visible only as a thick outline on them. Honestly, it looked weird and gross.
Then when the time came to remove my makeup, this refused to move. I had to bust out a makeup wipe and scrub my lips with it to take the fuzzy red outline off.
I swipe this on to my lips with the applicator, smile to line my lips with the corner of the doe-foot, and go over my lips one more time. I don’t need to dip the applicator into the tube more than once for this. I then wait for 5 minutes to let it dry completely.
Do I recommend this?
If you want a bold, matte, classic red lip color and you’re not going to be eating or drinking much while you rock that look, this is a good option. The shade looks beautiful when worn but it wears off when it touches food and I don’t like the way it looks after that. This has put me off the idea of a repurchase for now, though I’m sure my current tube will last me a while.
I, personally, will stick to The Wow Stick (review given in a link above) for occasions that involve eating and drinking while rocking a bold red lip.
[Update on 22-Aug-2015]: Small update but I felt it was worth something. So I wore this to bed the other night. Slept with it on for around 8 hours or so. Woke up and it hadn’t budged. Looked as fresh as it had when I first put it on. So I suppose, if you give it enough time to fully dry and don’t eat really greasy food while you have this on, it’ll last. Also, it didn’t dry out my lips the next morning. I guess you should always give someone a second chance, even your makeup.
Sephora outlets are likely to have this. It is also available online. It retails at $14.
